The mission is threefold:
1. Teach kids about the environment and to make environmentally-aware choices.
2. Teach kids to read and develop critical- and creative thinking skills in their mother tongue.
3. Teach kids English as a second language, regardless of socio-economic background.
To date, I have donated over 2,500 books to the following charities in Indonesia:
green-books.org
Yayasan Literasi Anak Indonesi
Rainbow Reading Gardens
Gili Eco Trust
Gili Shark Conservation
SeaTrek Sailing Adventures
Small-scale book donations (± 80) have been made to schools and charities in South Africa, Togo, Colombia, Costa Rica (via Cristine Figgener) and Quebec City.
Since 2019, I have embraced the open source technology offered by africanstorybook.org , and have made the English, isiZulu and Malagasy editions available for free reading and download.
I have also worked with an NGO called Boky Mamiko, who focuses on literacy in Madagascar. They have received both French-English copies, as well and French- Malagasy copies of << Wayan et le roi tortue : Wayan sy ilay Mpanjaka Sokatra >>.
I am as passionate about my project today, more than three years down in the line, as I was when I first started educating children about the environment in 2013. I’m still as excited about “Wayan and the Turtle King” as the moment I put the pen down after writing it 3 years ago.
